Jarrod Marshall
Jarrod is a retired Fire Captain, having served with the Markham Fire and Emergency Services in the city of Markham, Ontario, for over 28 years. He joined the fire department with 5 years of teaching experience in first aid as a civilian. As an inaugural member, Jarrod joined the 2001 launch of the Markham Fire Department’s Mental Wellness Team and became the team lead in 2015. Over the course of 24 years, he participated in many defusings and debriefings using the ICISF CISM model.

In 2024, in preparation for the next chapter of his professional life, Jarrod became an ICISF Approved Instructor, certified to teach Group Crisis Intervention, Assisting Individuals in Crisis, Advanced Assisting Individuals in Crisis, and Crisis Informed Peer Para-Counseling. Jarrod also joined LivingWorks in 2023 as a certified trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
In any of the courses I lead, I convey to students a fundamental understanding of the modern neuroscience behind human beings’ behavior in crisis, and how best to mitigate mental health emergencies, with precisely selected language and active listening for the very best possible outcome.
I am a Red Cross-certified Professional Responder Instructor for Advanced First Aid and Emergency Medical Responder courses.
Before leading any course, I collect information about students, any special considerations, and what industry-specific goals and outcomes are required.
